Stop Fighting To Make The Sale

It seems simple, doesn’t it?

I mean you have an idea for an incredible business and you’re on fire. You know just what you want to sell, price points, and how you want to help others with what you do. And there it begins.

At first you think, just put up the website, Shopify or Etsy store, and sell, sell, sell…but over time the reality sets in, no one can see you.

The analytics monster has you cornered.

When you talk about nothing, you get ranked. When you discuss your business, your analytics tank.

You’re desperately trying to get attention, yet you don’t want to be too SALESY, you don’t want to seem too pushy or desperate. And you know why that is…because instead of marketing you are TRYING to sell.

Selling and marketing are not the same. In selling you try to convince someone to buy what you have to offer. Personally, I don’t like to be convinced to purchase anything…do you? I prefer to buy when I’ve done my research and determined that I need what you’re selling, that you have a reputable business, and that you provide a good product or service with an overall good customer experience.

Let’s face it…you don’t meet someone and throw them down on the bed and force yourself on them, do you?! In our society, that would be considered assault and not an acceptable way to interact with someone on a first date encounter.

So, ask yourself this…why do you think that it’s okay to throw the person down on the first meeting and try to shove your unwanted product or service in their mouth. You don’t know me, and you most definitely don’t know if I need what you’re selling, so why would you be so forward as to assume that I need your coaching services, products, or anything that you sell?

Believe me, if we know each other and I all of a sudden have a desire or need for something you offer, I will be the first one to call someone I know, like, and trust and give them the business…but you also better believe that if you keep trying to shove your product at me against my will, that I will never…and please hear me, I will NEVER buy from you!

If you want to make an impression on me, be authentic and listen to me more than you talk about yourself and your product. And when the moment comes along when I’m talking about something I need assistance with, and you have something that could help me out…that’s your opening to showcase what you do and how it can help solve a problem for me.

Marketing is about creating demand, building trust, and positioning yourself as the go-to solution—so when buyers are ready, they come to you.

Remember, you are building relationships and networking, but buying is determined by the BUYER, not the seller. Just because you’re ready to sell doesn’t mean that I’m ready to buy.

You can sell way more to people if you help them solve their problems than if you run your agenda. People buy what they need when they need it, not what you want to sell when you want to sell it. Become buyer-focused and you will find true sales success.
